A Message from the Lay Director of Walk 77

September 16th, 2018

Dear Emmaus Brothers and Sisters,

I write to you with great hope and excitement about the upcoming Men’s Walk at the Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre in Shatin. It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as Lay Director for this event, and our team is preparing diligently for the weekend of October 18-21. The team and I seek your prayers and support to help the pilgrims who will attend The Walk to come to know and experience afresh the endless and faithful love of God. We ask for the Holy Spirit to come and move among the pilgrims throughout the weekend, to open their hearts and minds to His message and plan for them, and to lead them to a deeper and closer and bolder relationship with Him. May the team serve with humility, patience, kindness, love, gentleness and self-control as they abide by the Emmaus Team Canon which guides our service and actions over the weekend.

The scripture I have selected for this walk comes from Jeremiah 29:11-14 (NIV):

11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares The Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from the nations and places where I have banished you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile.”

For me, these verses remind us that God is always with us, thinking of us and that He has a clear plan for us. When the Jews of ancient times were exiled in Babylon, they may have perceived or feared God had abandoned or turned away from them, or wished evil upon them, when nothing could be farther from the truth. Jeremiah’s message to the exiles was to seek God and to trust in Him and His plan, and that their prayer and God’s answer were part of their future and hope. We see from this scripture God’s full dominion over all things as well as his faithfulness to His children. I pray we will all grasp this message and embrace His love, faithfulness and plan for our lives. With the above in mind, we must also humbly accept that this is God’s Walk, and that He has a plan for The Walk. And that all us, pilgrims and team members, laity and clergy, supporters and community members, all have a role to play, and that role must be one bound in obedience to His plan.

I have no doubt that if we do, this (again) will be the greatest walk ever!

DC,

Brad Landes
