Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,

**************************************************

FROM MARIE TALSNESS. Lay Director for Walk #54 on April 26th-29th, 2012

To the Community of Walk to Emmaus–

I am humbled to have been asked to be Lay Director of Walk#54. It is an honor to be the “shepherd” for this wonderful team that God has knitted together. Praying for these women to be on the team has been such a joy! God has made His presence felt when I asked each one of them to be on the team. It helped me to see that God has it all in hand.

Walk to Emmaus has changed the way I look at my faith. Am I being part of the Body of Christ or am I a spectator? Walk to Emmaus has “reeled me in” and brought me closer to Him in His body. My Fourth Days have caused me to look more closely at what I am really doing. “Why am I doing this?” and “Who am I doing this for?” Sometimes I get so busy doing God’s work that I forget it is God who I am working for.

The verse for Walk 54 is “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. (Psalm 23: 1-3a)

I struggled in choosing this verse. It saddened me because I had often heard this at funerals. In this struggle, I lost my older brother. Then I thought this is why the verse was in the forefront of my mind. God was preparing me for the loss of my brother.

This psalm was sung beautifully at my brother’s funeral and it confirmed my choice. When I returned to Hong Kong, I informed the team of my chosen verse-Psalm 23. At about the same time, I discovered a book by John Ortberg called Invitation to Grace, a meditation on Psalm 23. We, as a team, have been reading the reflections from this book as spiritual exercises and have been richly blessed by it. Through these weekly meditations, we aim to prayerfully prepare to come into Maryknoll, free of all burden and strife, to be in God’s presence to serve the pilgrims. We want to be there ONLY for the pilgrims.

Being Lay Director truly humbles you. This Walk is not mine. This verse is not mine but God’s. All I do, I do for God’s glory!

Living in Grace is an INVITATION. I invite you all to pray for this Walk and for the pilgrims who may be coming on this Walk.
