Letter from the Lay Director of Men’s WTE 76, May 3-6

February 11th, 2018

With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling,
and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 (NIV)

Every Walk is God’s walk, and HK WTE 76 will be no different. I know this and yet when I began to pray and look for this Walk’s verse I approached this endeavor as if finding a theme for the Walk – almost, but not quite, as if choosing a color palette for the walk: what color curtains and carpet would this Walk have? What would my stamp on the Walk 76 be?

I began with the idea of God’s Abundance. For Hong Kong, a city of immense wealth that seems to run on a scarcity mentality, a verse on God’s abundance would be perfect, I decided. I scoured Scripture to find that special verse to fit into my view of God’s abundance, but nothing seemed to fit what I had in mind.

Then one day, as often happens, God spoke through my wife, “How about this verse, Thessalonians 1:11″, she asked. I read the verse, liked it, but continued to search. As I continued to scan from one book to another, Old Testament to New Testament, I increasingly kept returned to Thessalonians 1:11. On one such occasion I heard God’s voice as I read, “Why overcomplicate things, Ronnie? Abundance is fine…but isn’t this what you long for and what you cherish about Emmaus?”…

“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you” – a praying community

“that our God may make you worthy of his calling” – God’s call and redemption

“and that by his power he may bring to fruition” – the Holy Spirit working in and through us

“your every desire for goodness” – a life fulfilled in Jesus

“and your every deed prompted by faith” – sharing Christ’s love with the world around us.

As for God’s abundance…well, that has already been more than revealed as we prepare for this walk….through the support of Emmaus leaders who have given time and counsel, in the brothers who have said yes to serving on the team, in the community prayers and intercessions, and the churches providing facilities.

WTE 76 is indeed God’s Walk. I thank you and ask for your continued prayers and support as the team comes together and the Lord’s plans for this Walk unfold.

De Colores!
