A letter from Joyce Wong, Lay Director for Women's Walk #36
“TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON, A TIME FOR EVERY PURPOSE UNDER HEAVEN”
is the scripture verse that I have chosen for Walk to Emmaus #36.
As most of you may know, this is the first line of a beautiful poem from Ecclesiastes (3:1).
When I was asked to be the next Lay Director, I was at once humbled and overwhelmed.
I was weighed down by the thought that I was not worthy of the task at hand. I wondered
whether I had fully given my heart, mind and hands and feet to God. Most of all, I questioned
whether this was the right time for me to be leading the next walk.
But the verse that I have chosen and the next lines that followed had reminded me that in life,
we go through a lot of seasons and changes. And depending on where you are in your life, some
of these seasons will stand out; while there will be others that don’t seem to make any sense at all.
And it’s the latter’s existence that we question because we want to fully comprehend the time and
seasons of God’s own choosing.
If we dig deeper into ourselves however, we start to realize that God has not given us dominion
over the time and the seasons. Instead, He has given us control over our response to them.
We all have the capacity to focus on the things that we could change, which will be our own
heart and our attitude and then make a decision that God can bless.
God, in His infinite wisdom had asked me to serve and there must be a reason why he picked
this time in my life. I therefore should not question the time; I just need to be faithful.
I will be obedient to His calling and I will embark on this journey and serve with love and
joy for the glory of His kingdom here on earth.
When we have complete trust and faith in God in the face of the changing seasons of life,
we can all be empowered by the Holy Spirit. Because with every response that we make that
draws us closer to God, His hope and His purpose for our lives will be revealed.
