Message from Lay Directors

MESSAGE FROM DAVID TALSNESS, Lay Director for Walk to Emmaus #45:
When asked to be Lay Director I began to think of many reasons that would prevent me from doing so.  Time commitments, uncooperative work and travel schedules, it must be someone else’s time to serve etc.
In prayer it came to me that there were only two reasons why I should accept:

Trust-Do I trust in the Lord to take care of all my worldly concerns?
Obedience-I need to obey the Lord’s calling!
Thankfully, through God’s grace, I realized there was only one option and that was to accept.  The farther along this process goes the more the Father has uplifted me.   The Holy Spirit has surrounded me with His chosen, outstanding team.  The team has enriched me.  All my worries about worldly concerns are being cared for, and if truth be told do not seem so very important today.
Team meetings have started and the fellowship and blessing that flow from these gatherings are now adding to our sense of team and purpose.  Recently the first preview talks have been delivered and the wondrous feeling of the Emmaus weekend in the conference room has returned.
Praying as a group, building our collective relationships with God gives all of us a sense of belonging to that community known as the Body of Christ.  Please pray that we always remember this is the team of the Holy Spirit.  We pray that we remain obedient to God and the Emmaus process after which we get out of the way and let the Holy Spirit effect change.  Also pray we remember to always trust in the Lord.

De Colores,

Dave

MESSAGE FROM MARGARET CHOW, Lay Director for Walk to Emmaus #46

What it means to be serving as a Lay Director

When Angela Wong approached me to prayerfully consider being the Lay Director for WTE#46, my first reaction was ‘Are you kidding?’ She obviously hasn’t seen me venting at my colleagues when working under pressure nor yelling full throttle at my parents. I did however take the ‘prayerfully consider’ part to heart. For three days I fasted and prayed, nothing happened, no sign. All I knew was that I should put myself into the absolute secure hands of Christ for guidance. As the Emmaus Community is the hands and feet of Christ, I reckon every one of you will play a part in guiding and transforming me, hopefully also vice versa.

Later this evening, there will be a Joint Kick-off meeting held amongst all team members of the men’s and women’s WTE#45 and WTE#46 respectively. I have witnessed first hand how dedicated brothers and sisters have worked unstintingly and sacrificially in preparing for this meeting. Although this is just the beginning of the pre-walk team formation, the journey of grace has definitely been set in full swing. How else can the team function except to want to be bathed in the grace of God?

In a month’s time, it’ll be Easter. To me the WTE is intrinsically wrapped up with the story of Christ’s resurrection power. I feel extremely privileged to be part of the team in re-telling this most amazing truth to pilgrims already chosen and called by God. Your prayers are appreciated in enabling the pilgrims to proclaim God’s grace to all generations. Many things were written in the Directors’ Manual, the bit I really like is: ‘Best of all, God will be with you and is with you…’ May God be with you.

De Colores!
